Amorphis return with their fifteenth studio album, and the question that immediately comes to mind is: how interesting can a new Amorphis release be in 2025? Can we still expect something worthwhile from them today? After the first listens to their new record, “Borderland”, the answer is clear – yes, Amorphis remain relevant, creative, and more than capable of delivering the goods in the studio. “Borderland” is a truly great Amorphis album. It contains everything that has always made their sound unique and stands as a manifesto of melodic progressive/folk/gothic metal. The band’s signature style is fully present, yet this time the music feels catchier, heavier, and even more melodic than in their recent efforts. Fans will find everything they expect from the Finnish masters, along with some fresh touches – for example, the modern elements in “Dancing Shadow” and the irresistible melodic hooks of “Light and Shadow”. Despite being very accessible, “Borderland” also requires patience and repeated listens to fully grasp its depth. You need to experience how each composition is built, how the layers intertwine, and how the band’s vision reveals itself from song to song. Personally, I loved the melodies and riffs, the thoughtful arrangements, and above all the passion that radiates from every performance. There’s no doubt that Amorphis fans will be thrilled with these new songs and the powerful artistic statement behind them. In 2025, the band have once again proven that they can create an album with their unmistakable identity while still sounding fresh. “Borderland” is captivating, emotional, and unforgettable. Both longtime followers and newer listeners have every reason to celebrate – Amorphis have delivered once again!
