Legendary guitarist, songwriter and activist Tom Morello has announced his first-ever solo rock album, “Everyone Gets Everything They Want”, set for release on September 25 via Mom + Pop Music. Continuing his long-standing tradition of combining explosive rock with a powerful message, Morello’s latest full-length effort tackles themes of fascism, immigrant rights and the growing unrest of the modern world. Driven by his unmistakable guitar work, the album delivers crushing riffs, mind-bending solos and a fearless lyrical perspective. Production duties on the record were handled by Tyler Smyth, Carl Restivo, Zakk Cervini, Dan Carey and Sam Nelson Harris.
The album explores a wide range of musical styles and features an impressive lineup of collaborators, showcasing Morello’s decades of experience as a songwriter and performer. Guests include Serj Tankian, KNEECAP and BEARTOOTH, while Morello’s 15-year-old guitar prodigy son Roman — who has amazed audiences while touring alongside his father over the past three years — receives co-writing credits on five tracks, contributing powerful riffs and blistering solos.
Morello has released a new single titled “Date Night”, a song inspired by the true story of three young Dutch women who became spies, saboteurs and assassins fighting against the Nazis during World War II. Sisters Truus and Freddie Oversteegen, along with their close friend Hannie Schaft, used their youthful appearances to move unnoticed through enemy checkpoints, smuggle weapons, sabotage railway lines and help Jewish children escape Nazi persecution. Their most daring acts came as members of the resistance, where they targeted Nazi officers by luring them away before carrying out assassinations. Hannie Schaft was eventually captured, tortured and executed by the Nazis, but she remained loyal to her fellow resistance fighters and refused to reveal any information about them.
Morello said: “I make anti-racist songs for anti-racists. I make anti-fascist songs for anti-fascists. And I make anti-Nazi songs for anti-Nazis. ‘Date Night’ is really a ‘which side are you on?’ song. If any of that offends you, do the math. Oh, and Roman Morello wrote the killer riff in this tune.”
