The world of arts learned the news and is devastated. The world of music gets poorer with this loss … Sean Malone is dead, at the age of 50, and the cause of death hasn’t been revealed. The legerndary bass virtuoso was a founding memeber of prog death metal masters Cynic (their “Focus” album is a classic), he played as a session musician on over 50 albums and released four musical theory books.
The news broke by Malone’s bandmate, guitarist/vocalist Paul Masvidal, who took to his social media (Wednesday, December 9) to write: “I learned today that Sean Malone has died. I am numb and grief stricken. He had a brilliant mind, a gracious heart and was one of the greatest musicians I’ve ever encountered. I know that this is a shocking loss for so many fans whose lives he touched with his artistry, as it is for me. Please keep him in your thoughts and listen to his playing to celebrate his life”.
The irony is that in 2020 another member of Cynic was found dead, founding member and drummer Sean Reinert.
With tears in our eyes, we have to say goodbye to this bass icon, Sean Malone. Rest in Peace.
