Melodic prog death metal breakthrough stars Octoploid release their debut album “Beyond The Aeons” and make an impression from the first note. From the moment the album opens, listeners are greeted with intricate guitar riffs and atmospheric synths that set the tone for an epic auditory experience. The musicianship of Octoploid is evident all throughout , with the ever so experienced Amorphis member, and band leader, Olli – Pekka Laine’s songwriting being impeccable. Laced with complex time signatures and virtuosic solos, this album is sure to take you on a journey. The vocals are powerful and emotive, adding depth and intensity to the already dynamic compositions through the album. There are certain tracks that stand out with their soaring melodies and intricate arrangements, meanwhile, others offer a more introspective, meditative vibe, showcasing the band’s versatility and ability to convey a wide range of emotions. The album’s production is also something I need to comment on, as I feel it is top-notch and it appears that each track has been meticulously crafted to create a rich, immersive sound. One of my favourite points of the album is its ability to be musically complex, while also keeping its overall sound catchy, something that is incredibly hard for bands. “Beyond The Aeons” is not just an album, it’s an experience. Octoploid are able to push the boundaries of their genre, blending elements of metal, progressive rock and ambient music to create something truly unique.
