NIGHTWISH – “YESTERWYNDE” (2024, NUCLEAR BLAST)

by MythofRock

Nightwish is a synonym of quality. Either you like them or not, you can’t doubt that their works are serious and have a lot inside to offer. Yet, I didn’t like so much their latest albums, although the vocals of Floor Jansen are flawless, just perfect. So, what is going on with their new album, “Yesterwynde”? Well, I liked very much this work and I could honestly say that this tenth Nightwish album is a masterpiece! And I am not exaggerating, since I have listened to it thoroughly, enjoying it again and again. Stylistically, Nightwish are following the symphonic metal and cinematic/soundtrack way of their latest albums – you will ask me now, where does it differ from the previous couple of records. The answer is simple … “Yesterwynde” is very inspired and contains hundreds of good ideas. I am excited with it, because Tuomas Holopainen has composed great tracks, and he is here in a super good shape. From the moment you push play, an intricate music story unfolds, with songs as chapters and you dive into an ocean of excellent brilliant music! The soundscapes are amazing, taking you on a wonderful, which proves to be unforgettable. All the songs, ranging from four to ten minutes, are going to enchant you – of course, it is an album which grows inside, so please be patient and let the band talk to your heart and soul with its beautiful music narration. Great refrains, mesmerizing melodies, complex and pompous orchestral arrangements, an efficient sound production, Floor Jansen’s breathtaking vocal performance and the artistic vision of Mr. Holopainen – these are the incredible ingredients of this awe-inspiring album. We all shall dream with “Yesterwynde” – and smile, cry, think and feel! Don’t say no to Nightwish – they crafted something miraculous!
