JAY WEINBERG: PREPARING A SOLO ALBUM

by MythofRock

Ex-Slipknot and current Suicidal Tendencies drummer Jay Weinberg reveals that he’s been creating his own music since his early 20s.

In an Instagram post on Monday (December 30), the 34-year-old musician shared that he has been writing and recording his own music since his early 20s.

He expressed a desire to focus more on his personal projects in 2025, accompanying the post with a 2017 photo of himself playing guitar. He also mentioned feeling recently inspired to reconnect with the instrument.

“Though the phrase ‘New Year’s resolution’ has never really connected with me, I’ve always believed in the power of intention, and following through on setting manageable goals,” Weinberg’s post begins.

He goes on to describe making solo music during his Slipknot-era downtime as “awesome” and “a great creative challenge”.

“I haven’t touched these songs since then, until recently feeling inspiration to pick the guitar back up and kick this stuff around again,” he continues. “It’s been a fulfilling experience, and I’ll tell you – I’m starting to like where these songs are headed. It feels good to finally set the intention of releasing some of this new music in the coming year”.

Weinberg became a member of Slipknot in 2013 after the departure of the late founding drummer Joey Jordison. During his time with the nu metal giants, he contributed to three albums: “.5: The Gray Chapter” (2014), “We Are Not Your Kind (2019), and “The End, So Far (2022), before parting ways with the band in November 2023.

Weinberg joined Suicidal Tendencies in March, and the following month former Sepultura drummer Eloy Casagrande was announced as his replacement in Slipknot.
