GODTHRYMM: ANNOUNCE “PROJECTIONS” ALBUM

by MythofRock

U.K. doom metal heavyweights Godthrymm are set to release their third studio album, “Projections”, on May 29 through Profound Lore Records.

With Projections, Godthrymm bring their “Visions” trilogy to a close—a journey that began with their 2020 debut Reflections and continued with the highly praised 2023 release Distortions. Since emerging with Reflections, the band has earned recognition as one of the most promising forces in the U.K. doom scene, reviving the haunting spirit of early–mid ’90s British doom metal, a sound famously shaped by the Peaceville Three—My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema.

That connection runs deeper than influence alone. Godthrymm was founded and is led by seasoned doom figure Hamish Glencross (ex–My Dying Bride, Vallenfyre, Solstice), alongside powerhouse drummer Shaun Taylor-Steels (ex–My Dying Bride, Anathema, Solstice), ensuring that the genre’s classic U.K. doom DNA is deeply embedded in the band’s core sound.

“Projections” expands on the foundations laid by “Distortions”. With a broadened lineup now featuring keyboardist and co-vocalist Catherine Glencross, bassist Bob Crolla, and second guitarist Kris McLaughlin, the album stands as Godthrymm’s most dynamic, richly layered, and intricate work so far. At the same time, it firmly retains the band’s signature, emotionally driven and crushing doom core—while also emerging as their most aggressive release to date.

Glencross comments: “On this new album we present to you songs that channel our passion, our sorrow, our love, our fury — the very essence that makes us who we are, and we hope you find some kindred reflection in yourselves on this journey.

“Our first album, ‘Reflections’, was a rekindling of our passion and fire for the music we love. The second album, ‘Distortions’, took that template and evolved it ever further with grandeur and vision. ‘Projections’ takes everything that has brought us to this point and delves into our very musical souls with the appropriate introspection, diversity, and contrasts of our emotions that define us. This is who we are, and we project all of this through our new album.”

“Projections” also features guest appearances from original English Dogs vocalist Adie Bailey and Xentrix frontman Jay Walsh on “Trenches Deep”. In addition, former My Dying Bride singer Aaron Stainthorpe appears on “Endure My Skin”, reuniting once again with his old bandmates Hamish Glencross and Shaun Taylor-Steels. This time, Stainthorpe takes on a more prominent role throughout the track, in contrast to his spoken-word contribution on “Follow Me” from “Distortions”.

Ahead of the release of “Projections”, Godthrymm have unveiled “Truth In My Own” along with its accompanying video.

“Projections” was recorded in stages over the past year across multiple studios, with Andy Hawkins and Hamish Glencross overseeing the process. The album’s cover artwork was created by Mitchell Nolte.
