Italy has always been one of the birthplaces of European power metal. And if we start talking about Italian power metal newcomer bands, we of course must refer to Frozen Crown, the five piece band from Milano. Well, their new album is their fourth, so I think the ”newcomer” tag doesn’t match any more. To be precise, in my opinion, this instalment is the one that will enthrone Frozen Crown and will place the crown of glory on their heads. Because ”Call of the North” is an album of furious, frenetic, relentless and passionate power metal, in the vein of Helloween, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Rhapsody of Fire, Dragonforce and many other music icons of the Euro power metal genre. Frozen Crown are incredible in what they’re doing, they present world class Euro power metal and seem invincible on their ground. Two things are impressive in the case of Frozen Crown – their speed and the vocals of Giada Etro. Indeed, the metal machine of the Italians works at full throttle, something that proves their unparalleled technical skills. And the vocal performance of Giada is unbelievable, her high-pitched vocals are wonderful and sound ideal for Frozen Crown’s music style. We should also note down that there are also some folk elements in the songs of “Call of the North”, which are brilliantly encompassed in the band’s music. So, all you powerheads, you have understood until now that this album is a killer one and should not be missed. Frozen Crown has its own music character and that should be appreciated. Let’s all heed the call!
