FINI TRIBE – “I WANT MORE” (2025, SINGLE, SHIPWRECKED INDUSTRIES)

by MythofRock

Scottish post-punk pioneers Fini Tribe return to the spotlight with the re-release of their cult single “I Want More”, ahead of their massive retrospective “The Sheer Action of Fini Tribe: 1982-1987”. Originally issued in 1987 through WaxTrax! Records, this track is a bold, percussion-driven cover of Can’s classic song (from the “Flow Motion” album, 1976), reimagined with Fini Tribe’s signature experimental edge. From the first beat, the track radiates energy. Layers of tribal drums create a hypnotic groove, pulling the listener into a dark, rhythmic trance. Instead of simply mimicking Can’s version, Fini Tribe twist it into something completely their own—adding sharp electronic textures, echoing vocal layers, and a tense, industrial undercurrent that hints at the band’s future dance-oriented direction. The vocals feel urgent and almost ritualistic, contrasting with the pulsing bass and jagged percussion. It’s raw yet meticulously arranged, a snapshot of a band pushing sonic boundaries in the mid-80s while keeping the essence of the original track alive. The production remains impressive even decades later—remastered for this release, it sounds sharper and heavier without losing its gritty charm. “I Want More” captures Fini Tribe’s fearless approach to genre-bending—bridging post-punk attitude with early electronic experimentation and industrial grooves. For fans of the era, it’s a nostalgic trip back to the bold creativity of the 80s underground. For new listeners, it’s a thrilling introduction to one of Scotland’s most inventive acts. A fierce, forward-thinking reinvention that still is fresh today. Essential listening especially for fans of post-punk, industrial and experimental sounds.
