DREAM THEATER: ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM (“PARASOMNIA”)

by MythofRock

Progressive metal giants DREAM THEATER are set to release their sixteenth studio album, “Parasomnia”, on February 7, 2025, through InsideOut Music. This album marks the band’s first collaboration with drummer Mike Portnoy since 2009’s Black Clouds & Silver Linings. The announcement of Parasomnia follows closely behind the news of their upcoming tour, which will celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary. The album was produced by guitarist John Petrucci, engineered by James “Jimmy T” Meslin, and mixed by renowned producer Andy Sneap. Once again, Hugh Syme returns to contribute his artistic vision to the album’s cover art.

From the opening track, “In The Arms Of Morpheus,” to the closing piece, “The Shadow Man Incident,” DREAM THEATER delivers a collection of songs that exemplifies the very essence of what has earned them a dedicated fanbase over the past four decades. Spanning 71 minutes, Parasomnia embarks on a musical journey that has become a hallmark of the band’s career. The album title, Parasomnia, refers to sleep disorders that cause disruptive behaviors during sleep, such as sleepwalking, sleep paralysis, and night terrors. Tracks like “A Broken Man,” “Dead Asleep,” “Midnight Messiah,” and “Bend The Clock” explore these themes in depth. The first single, “Night Terror,” offers a thrilling musical experience, coming in at just under ten minutes. A music video for the track, directed by Mike Leonard, is now available for viewing below.
