Queen guitarist Brian May recently disclosed that he experienced a minor stroke. The 77-year-old rock icon initially lost the ability to use his left arm due to the incident, but he has since recovered sufficient movement to play music once more.
“The good news is that I can play guitar after the events of the last few days,” he said in a video posted earlier today (Wednesday, September 4) on his web site. “I say this because it was in some doubt because that little health hiccup that I mentioned happened about a week ago, and what they called it was a minor stroke. All of a sudden — out of the blue — I didn’t have any control over this arm. So it was a little scary, I have to say.”
May was rushed to Frimley Park Hospital in Camberley, Surrey where he received “the most fantastic care and attention; blue lights flashing the lot, very exciting.”
Brian went on to say that he did not want to go public with his minor stroke at the time “because I didn’t want anything surrounding it. I really don’t want sympathy. Please don’t do that, because it’ll clutter up my inbox, and I hate that. The good news is I’m okay. I’m just doing what I’m told, which is basically nothing. I’m grounded, I’m not allowed to go out, drive, get on a plane, I’m not allowed to raise the heart rate too high. But I am good.”
Last month, German hard rock legends Scorpions had to cancel their previously scheduled tour dates in their home country after guitarist Matthias Jabs sustained an injury. The injury will necessitate surgery and a period of rehabilitation.
Earlier today (Wednesday, September 4), Matthias released the following statement about his condition: “Dear fans and friends, as you might have heard already, I had a bad accident in my rented summer house. I fell down the stairs with 16 steps and broke my left pinky twice and I also broke my left heel. I had surgeries on both, hand and foot, by the best specialists I could find in Hamburg. Now it is time to heal and start the physical rehabilitation for a speedy recovery.
“I will try everything to be able to play guitar again on stage as soon as possible”.
“I am sorry to tell you, that the shows in September won’t be happening, but I am very optimistic that we will see us again very soon.
“Rock n Roll forever, Yours Matthias”.
