AIRBOURNE‘s latest single, “Here She Comes”, released today, was co-written with Bryan Adams and Mutt Lange who have played a pivotal role in some of rock’s most successful and enduring releases, with combined sales reaching into the hundreds of millions. Their impressive résumé includes Adams’ multi-platinum classics “Reckless” and “Waking Up The Neighbours”—the latter topping the charts in 11 countries—as well as Lange’s production work on AC/DC’s iconic “Back In Black” and DEF LEPPARD’s landmark “Hysteria”, two albums that helped redefine hard rock and remain among the genre’s most influential recordings.
With the expertise of producer Brian Howes—who previously helmed AIRBOURNE’s 2013 album “Black Dog Barking”—alongside engineer Mike Fraser, whose credits include “No Guts. No Glory” (2010) and “Breakin’ Outta Hell” (2016), acclaimed mixing engineer Zakk Cervini (BRING ME THE HORIZON, ARCHITECTS, EVANESCENCE), and legendary mastering engineer Ted Jensen, AIRBOURNE have assembled a powerhouse creative team for “Here She Comes”. The track serves as the fifth single from the band’s forthcoming self-titled studio album, due out September 4 via Spinefarm, delivering a hard-hitting blast of rock that is as irresistibly catchy as it is uncompromisingly heavy.
It all began with the defiant anthem “Gutsy”, followed by the high-octane “Christmas Bonus” (“Ho-ho-ho – let’s go!”), then “Alive After Death (Last Plane Out)”, which climbed to No. 1 on Germany’s rock radio chart, and most recently “Kid In A Candy Store”, a coming-of-age rocker drawing clear inspiration from AC/DC’s classic “Whole Lotta Rosie”. Now AIRBOURNE raise the stakes once again with “Here She Comes”, a fist-pumping anthem driven by a massive, festival-ready chorus, soaring gang vocals destined to echo through arenas, and a blazing guitar solo pushed front and center in the mix for maximum impact.
Lines such as “Here she comes, raising a hurricane / There she goes, blowing my mind” may initially seem to revolve around one of vocalist/guitarist Joel O’Keeffe’s favorite lyrical themes—women—and they certainly do. But the lyrics also carry a second meaning, inspired by the tropical storm that swept toward Music Farm Studios in Byron Bay, Australia, while AIRBOURNE were recording the track. The storm became just one of several challenges the band faced during the sessions, alongside encounters with dangerous local wildlife and the frustrations of temperamental vintage recording equipment.
“It was like a hurricane came through,” recalls drummer Ryan O’Keeffe. “I remember screaming, ‘Get away from the windows!’ Streetie [bassist Justin Street] was sleeping in an old bus outside the studio, and a tree fell right next to it and almost crushed him!”
Adds brother Joel O’Keeffe (guitar, vocals): “That’s how the song came about. It’s just out of this storm that blew in. Everyone was sitting there going, ‘Here she comes!’ Then we flipped it, and it became a bit of a double entendre. It’s so much fun.”
