‘Back from the Grave’ set things straight from the beginning, with the heavy and groovy elements taking over, their trademark entrance. Of course their sound, songwriting and overall ‘modus operandi’ has gone through changes, and this is not the same band we all met back in the mid 2000s, with the unique s/t record. There has been line up changes and they have been through a process to redefine the way they write music.

However, the heart and soul of the band, their passion and individual desire to play vintage, old school rock their own way, has remained at the same spot all those years.
The heavy, fuzzy and distorted riffs come together with the rumbling and rock solid rhythm section, adding to the groove and pace of each one of the songs. The band is on a frenzy creative form, where ‘Fever’ was just a symptom surpassed for good and left behind. This is not nuclear science, but pure delight to the human ear: feeling the constant galloping of the whole song and getting carried away in ‘Tongue Tied’. ‘A Better Cut (Note to Self)’ slows down the pace in a typical Joakim Nilsson performance, the one we have always loved behind the vocals. I just love in this band, the interactive way for the drums and the bass interacting, with pounding drumbeats and the gloomy dominance of the bass lines in a classic, old school manner, but at the same time fresh and modern (e.g.: ‘Time to Tell’).

Make no mistakes: ‘Fever’ is another dark album from Graveyard, which serves as their vehicle to escape to another phase, move on and leave behind this bad chapter, whatever that meant for the band itself, on a personal or not level. ‘Room tempered’ shares the band’s high energy rock n roll and raw feeling which goes across the album and leaves no empty spaces, it just fulfills your soul and proves how charismatic this band has always been.

‘Fever’ closes with ‘Dead note’, a bluesy jewel, that makes you admit how addictive you have become to Graveyard’s tunes, how much we love this band and its doomy-gloomy-melancholic grace, leaving you always thinking what a great band they truly are! It is the perfect ending to an album, which does not reach the greatness of ‘Hisingen Blues’ but is a great album to listen to, due to its unique vintage quality, bluesy approach and unique identity within the Graveyard catalogue.

That was it. The ticket was bought in a blink of an eye and I was almost counting the days for it. This is a band I have been following, not from Day 1, but from their early studio days and this anticipation to see them live on stage had hit high hopes!

Speaking about a special night, how many times does someone get the chance to see both Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth and Tobias Forge from Ghost, DJ-ing before and after a gig? I don’t think too many.. This was an extra reason to get super excited about this event and all of us were super lucky! They played some really cool tunes, warming up the crowd and getting to meet and greet the fans, that was definitely a highlight of the whole night!

Around 8:00 pm. The Crypt got on stage and unleashed their occult, doomy heavy metal show, captivating the audience on every song. This is a band relatively new so to speak, as their debut album was released in 2024, but they sure have made a name so far as their performances on scene prove their fame and justify their hype. Their singer (previously in the band The Heard with 3/4 of Crucified Barbara) has a unique outfit with a customized horns set up in her head which matches the theme of the band, the riffs and the overall atmosphere of their playing.

The whole band performed very solid, with robust and very good sound and I must say that I give extra kudos to their guitar player (who appeared as a guest, replacing their regular guitarist) and drummer as they both kicked ass with their inspired and really massive sound and playing, but the whole band exceeded my expectations as I had never seen them before. This is definitely a band that I would like to see again live!

Approximately a bit more than 9:00pm it was about time for Crucified Barbara to show up and they did it emphatically, entering the stage with the iconic ‘Crucifier’ getting us all on our feet and getting the excitement to the top! After all those years, the anticipation and the hope of being here, this is finally happening.. Mia, Klara, Nicki, Ida, what a performance that was! What a welcome back from the audience who screamed in every song!

With 4 albums already in their suitcase, they delivered an all star playlist with their most accredited tunes, such as: ;Rock me like the Devil’, ‘Electric Sky’, ‘Ghost Inside’, ‘Feels like Death’, etc. This is a seriously ass kicking band, with very heavy riffs, rock solid rhythm section and very charismatic vocals, which altogether add up to a hard rock band ready to leave no doubt about what they are capable to do. Constant headbanging, immense energy and a – there is no tomorrow – playing style is the band’s trademark all those years and this night could not have been an exception. A wonderful moment when Mia kicked off ‘My heart is black’ with the acoustic guitar, before the song got really heavy, a beautiful tune from every perspective..

Ending this awesome Friday evening in Stockholm was ‘In Distortion we Trust’, one of my all time favorites. This combination of the dirty/really heavy riffs, the vocals and the overall groove really making it standing out, as it has the band’s attitude and character of heaviness and raw power. Frenzy drumming, leads, solos, rhythm guitars, all simply amazing and, with a headbanging you never forget! I could not have asked for something better!

The album starts with the s/t track, and trust me, this is a very heavy one with a massive groove where you get immediately into the album’s context. The guitars are massive, crispy and very heavy. Magus Ekwall, one of my personal favorite hard roc singers exceeds himself on this album. He has done a fantastic work, and this is of course no news, but, truly, he shines on this album. Coming back to the guitars, ‘You Can Not Kill My Soul’ kicks off with a beautiful and calming acoustic guitar and a slower paced vocals, combined with a menacing electric guitar riffing, emphatic drums and the heavily convincing bass lines, showing this variety and perfect mix within the same song. Simply brilliant! The album gets more and more interesting with the more psychedelic piece ‘It’s Over’, where again, the groove is menacing and the vibes are heavy. This particular one brings some nostalgia and some old-school The Quill feeling to their fans, and it is one of my favorite tunes of the album.

What flows freely throughout this record is the band’s confidence and their unique character which has been their trademark all those years. ‘Son of Light’ continues the acoustic journey in a mellow and soothing manner, where the album “takes a break”, slows down a bit before the heavy guitars take over again with ‘If Tomorrow never comes’ another groovy and “galloping” piece. This album is so good! Another nostalgic one, the classic Quill way is ‘Now You are Gone”. ‘Lights Turn Low’ showcases the fuzzy guitars of Christian Carlsson and is another great song, where the whole band showcases their skills and dynamism. ‘Mastodon’ is like a small album within an album, a nine minutes thirty seconds brilliant piece where all the Quill elements are blended and where the band is jamming together, “live, in studio”. I particularly like on this one the drums, the way they have been put together, their sound, just fantastic!

“Master of the Skies” is a fantastic album by one of Sweden’s finest and greatest bands ever. These guys have done an incredible job, pushing themselves further, exploring new territories, but keeping all those elements, deeply found in their DNA throughout the years. This record reminds us not only how good they are but also, they can produce some fine piece of music that appeals to hard rock fans and also respects their status out there.

Friday evening, right after work, what a better way to start your weekend with a long anticipated live show! It has been ages since I saw Witchcraft last time and I believe it was about time, after all these things happened in between, the records, the changes. I had so much anticipation and curiosity, it had hit the top!

Never been before at Mejeriet in Lund, at the south of Sweden, for a gig, and I must say that it’s a pretty good place for a rock show. Pardon, a local and band not far away from Lund (Malmö) opened up the night, and instantly gained the interest from the audience with their electrifying and captivating performance. A blend of post-punk, garage and dark atmospheric oriented sound, they played with high energy and dedication, and gave us a sweaty, fast paced – fast riffs and high energy rock n roll performance, having very good contact with the crowd and provided a really good warm up for almost 30 minutes. It is definitely a band I will keep on my radars and check their upcoming releases.

With a short intermission in between the 2 sets for the necessary changes in the scene, Witchcraft appeared and gave us a night to remember! Starting with “If Crimson was your color”, the power trio (Magnus Pelander on vocals and guitar, Ida Elin Tannerdal on bass and Johan “Jussi” Kalla on drums) kicked off in a fabulous way! This band may have been through various changes, challenges, obstacles, the years have long passed from the early 00s and their first release “No Angel or Demon”, but the real essence of what Witchcraft stands for was completely unfolded on the scene of Mejeriet. I mean, as the songs kept on being played (“Schyssta Lögner”, “No Angel or Demon”, “Wooden Cross”, etc.) I recalled the turning point of the band which was the signing to Rise Above Records. Lee Dorrian must have been very proud of this band and he must be given a lot of credits.

Anyway,
Back to the live gig, Magnus Pelander, the mastermind behind Witchcraft, really delivered an awesome performance from start to finish, and, even though, I must admit that, a second guitar maybe necessary, he played a fantastic show, with slow and heavy riffs, solos and everything. After all, he has always played great guitars. Vocal-wise, he handled so good the slow paced/doomy parts and the more folk based ones so gently and with an independent and fragile tone. “Queen of Bees”, a personal favorite track of mine was on the playlist and made me super happy when the doomy and slow riffs started, and that seemed to be a favorite for the crowd as well! I need to make as special mention to Ida Elin and Johan, who have joined Withcraft the latter years: both complement in the best way Magnus and form the ideal rhythmic foundation for the sound of the band. Both of them was a pleasure to watch, with their heavy, groovy and to-the-point performance. Big respect!

“Her Sisters they were weak”. “Malstroem” (another personal favorite) and “Leva” guided us through the end, where Magnus had been captivating and with a vintage and nostalgic feeling all over the place, like a trip to the roots of his band, where songs were spanning from all different eras, representing this glorious past and with the eye towards the present and future where we can expect very nice things..

“Witchcraft” – Take One was the perfect closure of the night, a night where the band and Magnus himself re-introduced themselves to us, making a promise for new, great stuff, soon, but reminding us that we should never forget where they come from, what they have achieved and what they/he are/is capable of.

The “Faraj Risberg Rogefeldt” album is a fine piece of music, from a country which has been a pioneer in heavy rock, especially coming from the 70s (e.g.: November). However, on the album there are powerful glimpses where you will find Led Zeppelin, Free, Cream or Jimi Hendrix, especially in the groove, the psychedelic guitar riffs (both the solos and the leads), where the band takes a step back in time and filters their music through their contemporary lens, but overall, they sound very old school. And this is one of their strongest points. The vocals are contributing to this vintage feeling, where nostalgia for the past meets the reality of the contemporary with a fresh eyepoint.

The groove is flowing organically throughout the album; the bluesy feeling is spread all over and the mood is very much uplifting. The song names and lyrics are in Swedish, with an obvious focus on the Swedish fan base (a similar approach has been taken by another great Swedish band ‘Abramis Brama’), which gives a more authentic and genuine character to their record. and This power trio is definitely a band to be closely watching from now on and I look forward to catch them live in 2026 and enjoy their unique psychedelic and old school heavy rock vibes!

The album is a fantastic piece of modern doom, where Magnus Pelander testifies his soul and gives a great performance behind both the guitars and also the vocals, in a remarkable manner, where the emotional fragility meets the raw power of his guitar. The Swedish lyrics add up to the authenticity of the album’s craftmanship and also to the overall atmosphere where, drama, the overall emotions and a glimpse of nostalgia for the first albums of the band emerges through the misty walkways. Even though “The Alchemist” or “Legend” have left their own unprecedented mark in the band’s chronology and history, ‘Idag’ is the record which sets things together again and can make you think a little bit outside of the box, considering the greatness of this band from Örebro.

“Burning Cross” is the trademark track of the album, a defining tune for this record as it encompasses the current status of Magnus Pelander as a musician. “Christmas”, a beautiful piece where the acoustic guitar together with the instable fragility of Pelander, definitely constitute a highlight of this record and remind us of the previous Witchcraft album ‘Black Metal’, a controversial though great record. References to Jesus Christ and suicide reveal the esoteric battles and inner struggles which Pelander has gone through, and these are the ones who have fueled his inspiration and creativity to make such a great album.

Be no fooled: Witchcraft, a personal project/band of Magnus Pelander, have gone through many lineup changes, struggles, hiatuses, but the core elements of the man in charge remain untouched through the course of time. The band, which once turned everyone’s eyes and ears to the glorious past of the 70s, is now making a re-entrance on the central stage of doom and heavy rock with this fine piece of art. ‘Idag’ does not just claim, but strenuously gains our respect for its undenied authenticity, inspired artistry and fragile musicality.

Långfinger kicked off the night and they went straight ahead full throttle. The sound was not coming very well in the first couple of minutes, but it got much better as they were playing more and they band played like there is no tomorrow giving it all! The focus of the setlist was their fantastic latest album ‘Pendulum’ which I wanted so much to listen played live, as I consider it a great album. Kalle, Victor and Jesper is not just another a power trio. They are the REAL thing when playing live, having so much energy and keeping contact with the people making everyone part of their show. Guitars, drums, bass and vocals altogether with high intensity and committed to play a great gig. With their Rush influences, the band left nobody unsatisfied, to the contrary, everybody was pleased with the band’s performance and we all just wished the band could play a longer time with a playlist of more songs.

The next band, The Cruel Intentions, is one I did not know beforehand and had to check their songs and music before the gig, doing my homework. They played really well and loud, with their heavy guitars, melodies and unique vocals, the band presented a noteworthy result at the end. Having influences from Guns N’ Roses, Motley Crüe and a lot of bands from the second part of the 80s glam rock scene, the band delivered what was promised to their core fans who were many at Slaktkyrkan that night. The vocals is a mixture of Alexi Laiho (Childern of Bodom) and Dregen (Backyard Babies) but in a unique way, the spirits of the fans were high all through the gig. Well done guys!

The headliners of the night, Eclipse, started their gig with a mix of samples of songs from different bands (ACDC, Megadeth, Scorpions, and others) as a backdrop, just before they hit the stage with their first track for the night ‘Apocalypse Blues’, which was just released a while ago and is actually a big success. Victor, who played with Långfinger, has joined Eclipse and his brother Philip (what an awesome and special drummer he is!) for some years now and it seems like he has been with the band for ever. Erik is a magnificent performer live, that of course is not news, but every time I see him on stage, he firmly confirms my opinion, as he is such a good singer, both on the more heavy songs but also on the melodic ones, for example, on the ballad ‘Battlegrounds’ where he and Magnus played the acoustic version, simply a brilliant performance! Magnus is a guitar god to me. Simply said that. He can do crazy things with the guitar on leads, solos, rhythm, it is just s great to see him performing live and giving it all every time! He is definitely one of my guitarists out there. By far. Setlist-wise, I believe this has been one of the most rich and fulfilling one for the band, having almost zero complains by the people what to play, etc. My only personal comment would be that I would like them to play ‘Bite for Bullet’ which is a personal favorite for me from the Eclipse catalogue. Other than that, even the hard core fans of the band should be happy. The ending was glorious with ‘Viva la Victoria’, the band has played a fantastic show, with so much energy, good vibes on the crowd and an all star setlist offered to the audience. Could not have asked for a better Saturday night actually!

‘The Serpent’s here’ has come as no surprise. Wiberg’s second full length LP is a musical journey, a long jam session which travels the listener away. Drummer Tor Sjödén (Viagra Boys) and along with Kungens Män’s Mikael Tuominen constitute a fine and hard-working group who have created such a wonderful piece of musical art. First of all, ‘The Serpent is here’ is another convincing example of, not only Per playing an(y) instrument but his vocal performance is such noteworthy as well. This man can do anything – anywhere – anyhow and at the highest quality standards! The album has so many influences, elements, and references to different music genres. You get the feeling that any track could be a soundtrack of a movie, all tracks are so well crafted and meticulously placed. There are tracks, such as ‘He just disappeared’, where Per spells out a fantastic vocal performance as it could come from a film narrative, playing with moods, atmospheres, and different emotions, leading to a dramatic pathway. The keyboard work which is put all over the album is magnificent. ‘Follow the Unknown’ has incorporated beautiful guitar leads and serves as a fine moment within the album, climaxing the album and its dramatic substance. Simply brilliant! The outro of the album, as a bonus track, is the cover to Warrior Soul’s ‘The losers’, back from 1990, comes as not the track you were expecting Per to record and include on his album. However, it is beautifully done and epitomizes the overall palette of the album, stipulating as well the fact of how unique and convincing as an artist Per truly is.

There are of course punk rock impacts (e.g.: ‘Radio Edit’) as well, which contribute to its more diverse and bigger spectrum of influences, however the prominent idea of ‘When the colors fade’ is the 90s post-grunge, alternative era. Even stoner rock is projected as well (e.g.: Spellbound’ and ‘Buried in Stone’), which means that these guys definitely love the 90s! And that is not bad thing at all! To the contrary..
The album closes with the s/t song, a power ballad, a mellow and melancholic ending, which sets the tone and marks the overall character of this album and the band I must say. This closing song gives a lot of credit to Spacedrifter for the fact that they can so successfully mingle all these different elements of the post-grunge era with beautiful vocals and guitars.

As album highlights, should I choose any songs, I would select ‘Thousand Days’, ‘Buried in Stone’, ‘Through the Desert’ and the s/t one.

Hello Kalle and thank you for being available for this interview. I hope you are doing well! First, I would like to start with the new album: I am interested to know more about the album title ‘Pendulum’. How did that come up and whose idea was it?


Hello, my pleasure! The title was something that Victor came up with. I think it was something that could describe our music well. Like a swinging pendulum, in constant move. You never really know where it goes and still you know.

Could you please tell us a bit about the writing and recording process of the album?

Long story short. Before the pandemic we had plans to record in early 2020 but since the world was locked down, we took a natural break. Instead of recording, like most bands did, we just rested. And I think that was clever, because we found the spark again. 
We recorded in late 2021, did some overdubs and mixed in 2022, prepared and did all the boring work in 2023. Regarding the writing process, we just recorded the songs we had planned to record in 2020 and some new songs was added along the way and some was discarded. The recording process itself was very fast. We booked a week in the studio and did the basic tracks. And recorded vocals and overdubs when we had the time.

Långfinger is for me personally, a band which incorporates so many elements on its albums, all albums are so diverse, open minded and ‘rich’ in regard to the structure of the songs themselves, the inspirations flowing on the albums, etc. What is the musical approach of you as a band member but also from the group perspective as well?



I don’t think we have a specific approach more than that we try not to have too many rules when it comes to making music. For example, I listened to Motorpsycho a lot when I wrote songs for the Pendulum album and off course I wrote a song in the vein of Motorpsycho. Because, why not? If you don’t have any specific rules it gets a bit more exciting. I don’t say that Im gonna write a Morbid Angel song and demand it to be on a Långfinger album, it has to be realistic and in the limits of what the band can do. If I wanna write a Motorpsycho song, no one’s gonna stop me!
The Motorpsycho song did not end up on this album, but it has been refinished and will be given another shot when we record the next one!

Everyone in the band is busy either with work, family or other band obligations. How easy or difficult it is for you guys to get together, rehearse, record and dedicate time for Långfinger?



Get to together and have a beer: Super easy! Rehearse and write new stuff: not as easy. Even though we are just a three piece band, its pretty hard to find time. Victor has much obligations with Eclipse and I have a few other musical projects such as Toad Venom Wolves in Haze and Thick. Jesper works night shifts sometimes and weekends sometimes. So we have to prepare more these days, know exactly what to rehearse etc etc. I do most of the song writing alone so its not like when we were kids and could hang out and jam in the rehearsal space for hours.

‘Pendulum’, like all previous albums of the band, is a record where there is a lot of attention paid to the details, of every note, every riff and generally is a really well made and conceived record. How important is for you this balance, between the free-flowing jamming or creation of ideas with the meticulous approach when recording a Långfinger album?

Except for the first album, we have recorded everything we have done live, and that is the recipe for us. Just us three in a room, trying out the tunes. We have a form for all songs but you never know when the jam feeling kicks in. I don’t mean that the song turns into a pure jam but just so you get a sense of a free floating vibe.

How many years you have known Jesper and Victor? And how did Långfinger start back in the days? Tell us a bit about the formation of the band its course throughout the years.

Many years. Jesper was 15 and victor was 13 when we first met each other. 
We played in different band at the time and after a few years we started Långfinger just as a side project really. All of us had other bands and in the beginning we just jammed and played Kyuss covers. But after a while we realized we had something good goin’ on. We wrote some originals and had a few great shows the first two years.

How did you start playing music since you were a kid and who were your big influences?


I picked up the drums and the guitar at the age of nine. 
First I wanted to be a drummer but that seat was already taken when my first band was formed. 
Music has always been around me during my childhood so it was like the most natural thing to start playing music. 
My first major influence in music was Beatles, and first guitar influence must have been 
AC/DC. I convinced my parents to take me to AC/DC concert when I was 11. It was my first big rock show. And not long after that I found Deep Purple and from there it went.

Two of my favorite tracks of ‘Pendulum’ is the ‘Orbiter’ and ‘Team Building’, which are the heavy ones. I absolutely love on these the heavy riffs, the inspired solos and the whole rhythm section which all make the song very heavy. What is the biggest challenge for you, when you write new music?

Thx! Orbiter is one of my favorites as well. The biggest challenge is to come up with something that good that the other guys gets excited about it. I usually writes many songs and not all of them gets through the final filter and ends up on an album. 
And also you don’t want to write the same song again, and still you want it to sound like Långfinger. But when we did this album we knew we were gonna do a harder album than before.

What are your next plans with the band, in regard to playing gigs, etc.?

We have a bunch of shows booked for the spring, including a short trip to Spain. 
And hopefully we gonna do a bunch of shows in the fall and winter as well. 
And parallel with that we’re gonna record a new album that hopefully gonna come out in the fall of 2025. So not eight years between the albums again! Haha
