TAILGUNNER: NEW ALBUM TO BE PRODUCED BY K. K. DOWNING

MythofRock — Thu, 25 Sep 2025 05:07:25 +0000

Having received the rare stamp of approval from K.K. Downing as “the next big thing in metal” and fresh off a U.K. tour supporting KK’S PRIEST, rising British outfit TAILGUNNER have officially signed with Napalm Records. Taking his support a step further, the legendary JUDAS PRIEST guitarist has now stepped in as producer for their powerful second album. Quickly winning over fans across the scene, this young band from the birthplace of heavy metal is proving they’re one to keep a close eye on.

TAILGUNNER comments on the Napalm signing: “There are iconic partnerships — like denim and leather, Jack and Coke, and swords and tequila. Now we hope to add TAILGUNNER and Napalm Records to that list.

“We’re proud of being pure heavy metal, with zero apologies or compromise. That’s why joining the world’s biggest independent metal label feels right at home.

“The blitzkrieg of our first three years as a band continues full throttle — with our upcoming sophomore album, and together with the incredible team at Napalm behind us and the great and legendary K.K. Downing producing the record, we’re taking on the world n’ planting the flag for British metal right at the top of it. Heavy metal for eternity!”

K.K. Downing states: “TAILGUNNER is a band we should have seen emerge years ago from the U.K. They personify everything that is heavy metal. They are loud and proud, and totally descended from everyone in metal that has gone before — their energy and rawness, together with their brand of metal, incorporates all of the godfathers and much more. [IRON] MAIDEN, PRIEST, MOTÖRHEAD, DEF LEPPARD — the list is endless. The band has a youthful freshness and a uniqueness that will no doubt elevate them to being a true Metal favourite of the fans.”

Napalm Records senior A&R Sebastian Münch adds: “Over the past few months, I’ve been fortunate enough to witness the development of the new album, and it’s simply incredible. K.K. Downing has already said everything perfectly here. TAILGUNNER are not a copy or nostalgically drawing on IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST or DEF LEPPARD, but are creating their own fresh, authentic heavy metal universe”.

TAILGUNNER will support FOZZY on the “Eyes On You” U.K. tour in February 2026.

TAILGUNNER – “GUNS FOR HIRE” (2023, FIREFLASH)

MythofRock — Tue, 23 Jan 2024 06:41:20 +0000

“We are the ones who bring the fire”, they declare, and after listening to their album, there is no alternative but to agree with them! Tailgunner, the promising newcomers, have unleashed their first full-length album, and each track serves as a statement that they are here to blast your speakers with their … fire! This emerging band delivers a potent album, featuring explosive sounds, poignant lyrics and nostalgic melodies. Drawing inspiration from heavyweights like Iron Maiden and Helloween, Tailgunner seamlessly weaves elements of old-school heavy metal with thrash influences, all while maintaining their distinctive, personal style. The album kicks off with “Shadows Of War”, showcasing the band’s readiness for musical warfare, with their instruments as their weapons, of course. After this … war is over, here comes “Guns For Hire” that is without doubt one of the stronest songs of this release, and perfectly represents the sound and music style of the album. Craig Cairns’ powerful vocals harmonize seamlessly with the lyrics, a consistent strength across every song. “Revolution Scream” is one of the album’s highlights, delivering a melodic and energetic performance with a rich tapestry of musical nuances in every instrument and vocal arrangement. Then, “Crashdive” treats listeners to a multifarious guitar solo, accompanied by dynamic rhythm shifts in the drumming—a masterfully crafted piece offering a multitude of flavors from this musical wolf pack. Each song serves as a preparation for the next one, leading up to the epic finale, “Rebirth”, the longest track on the album. It serves as a fitting conclusion to this outstanding musical journey, leaving us eagerly anticipating more from this highly promising band. In summary, this album leaves nothing to be desired. Inspired, meticulously crafted, powerful, featuring insightful lyrics, and performed by exceptionally talented musicians. Tailgunner has poured their souls and creativity into this work, and the result is a remarkable release. This album is undeniably deserving of attention and marks the beginning of what I hope will be a series of many exceptional releases from this talented group.
