Featuring Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton (guitar), K.K. Downing (guitar), Ian Hill (bass), and Alan Moore (drums), “Sad Wings Of Destiny” was a bold, dark, and ambitious statement that would go on to help shape the sound of heavy metal. The album introduced future metal classics such as “Victim Of Changes” and “The Ripper” — both of which JUDAS PRIEST performed live during their 2026 “Faithkeepers” summer tour.

Now, as the album celebrates the 50th anniversary of its original release, JUDAS PRIEST are revisiting “Sad Wings Of Destiny” with two distinct editions: “Original 1976 Masters” and the newly announced “Remixed & Remastered.” Both editions restore the band’s intended track listing, opening with the atmospheric “Prelude” and presenting the songs in the sequence JUDAS PRIEST originally envisioned for the album.

“Original 1976 Masters” offers an archival presentation of the album, sourced directly from the original analog master tapes that have been preserved in storage for decades and newly remastered for the 50th anniversary. The physical edition will be available on hand-poured Solar Flare vinyl, with each record featuring a unique color pattern.

The CD edition comes in a classic jewel case and includes liner notes by Bryan Reesman, previously unseen archival photographs, and the original 1976 version of “Diamonds And Rust,” recorded during the “Sad Wings” sessions but ultimately left off the album. The European release will also be available on “Galaxy” color vinyl.

The “Original 1976 Masters” will be available for streaming worldwide on October 2, 2026, with the CD and vinyl editions following on October 9. Fans will also have early access to the physical formats through the Exciter Records webstore starting October 2.

“Remixed & Remastered” presents a brand-new mix created from the original multitrack recordings. It was produced by Tom Allom, mixed by Luie Stylianou, and mastered by Matt Colton — the same team responsible for the “Remixed & Remastered” edition of “Rocka Rolla.”

The release will be available as a 45 RPM, 180g double LP on black vinyl, mastered at half-speed to deliver an enhanced audiophile listening experience. The CD edition comes in a modern digipak. Both physical formats include a newly remixed version of the 1976 recording of “Diamonds And Rust” as a bonus track.

The “Remixed & Remastered” edition will be available for streaming worldwide on October 2, 2026, with the CD and vinyl editions set to arrive on November 27. Fans will have early access to the physical formats through the Exciter Records webstore starting November 6.
