THE SILENT WEDDING: COVER BLACK SABBATH

MythofRock — Fri, 30 Oct 2026 17:32:46 +0000

The Silent Wedding present their own distinctive take on the legendary Black Sabbath classic “N.I.B.”, transforming it into an atmospheric acoustic reimagining.
“N.I.B. Reimagined” brings the song into the band’s own musical world through an acoustic arrangement enriched by kaval and bagpipes performed by Leonidas Thermos, giving it a darker, more intimate and almost ritualistic character.
The Silent Wedding’s connection with “N.I.B.” dates back to 2014, when the song first became part of their live set. Over the years, the arrangement evolved and developed an identity of its own on stage.
The release also stands as The Silent Wedding’s tribute to Ozzy Osbourne, as well as a celebration of Black Sabbath and their lasting influence on heavy metal.
A song that has been part of The Silent Wedding’s journey for more than a decade is now officially captured in their own unique version.

SEVENTH WONDER: ANNOUNCE NEW ALBUM, SHARE “MEMORIES” SINGLE

MythofRock — Thu, 15 Oct 2026 10:52:28 +0000

Swedish progressive metal masters SEVENTH WONDER are set to release their new studio album, “VII”, on January 29, 2027, via Frontiers Music Srl.

To offer fans a first glimpse of the upcoming album, the band has released the single “Memories”, accompanied by an official music video, which can be viewed below.

Bassist Andreas Blomqvist commented: “This was oddly enough one of the last, if not the last song we wrote for the album. We were sweating a bit in that we didn’t feel we had the best song to launch the new band with. Then Kyrt [keyboardist Andreas Söderin] did his magic and brought what would become ‘Memories’ to the studio. [Singer] Mattias [Olofsson] wrote the vocals and also took lead on writing the lyrics and we finished them off together. We feel this is the perfect song to showcase what SEVENTH WONDER of 2026/2027 sounds like and we really hope you like it too!”.

With “VII”, SEVENTH WONDER deliver one of the most inspired and accomplished albums of their career, reaffirming their status as one of the leading acts in the European progressive metal scene. The record also ushers in a new era for the band, introducing vocalist Mattias Olofsson, who joins following the departure of Tommy Karevik, now a member of KAMELOT.

Rather than simply stepping into an existing role, Mattias has become a natural part of the SEVENTH WONDER sound, adding his own personality and vocal style while remaining true to the band’s musical identity. The collaboration proves highly effective, as showcased by the powerful and emotionally charged single “Memories”.

Andreas Blomqvist explained: “It was a daunting task to go out and find a new singer, as well as figure out who we were after the silence since ‘The Testament’. I believe we managed to get all the diversity that we could in there in terms of atmospheres and vibes, but certainly not deviating from the well-known formula of what has become the cornerstone of our unique sound”.

“A new singer is a new face of the band which we hope will reinvigorate the listeners and bring something new and exciting to the table. At the same time long-time fans will probably feel right at home in the sonic landscape of solos, odd time signatures and instrumental endeavors that they’ll be expecting”, he added. “We are thrilled to finally get to share our seventh studio album with you all, and hope you enjoy ‘VII’ as much as we do!”.

Musically, “VII” showcases the band’s songwriting maturity and sophistication. Intricate arrangements, meticulously crafted details, outstanding musicianship and a remarkable sense of melody combine to create an album that is both ambitious and effortlessly natural.

“VII” track listing:

01. Memories
02. Riverside
03. The Villain And The Whisper
04. Evermore
05. Cry Wolf
06. The Storm
07. Silver Lining
08. Echoes
09. Ad Infinitum

ETERNITY’S END – “TITANBLOOD” (2026, SCARLET)

MythofRock — Tue, 13 Oct 2026 11:06:42 +0000

Power metal has become a rather worn-out genre. Its heyday was years ago, and today it rarely gets much attention, except through a handful of bands whose talent and skills manage to bring power metal back into the spotlight. One of these bands is Eternity’s End, the musical brainchild of virtuoso guitarist Christian Muenzner, who have now reached their fourth album with their latest release. “Titanblood” is an excellent record that could take the German band to the next level. Why? For many reasons! First, the songs are highly inspired, built around a wealth of fantastic ideas, and reveal something new with every listen to the attentive, demanding listener. They draw influences from bands across both the European and American power metal scenes. Second, the vocals are amazing! How could they be anything else when the group’s new singer is the well-known Mike Livas (Silent Winter, Bloodorn), whose beautiful voice takes Eternity’s End to another level?! The third reason is the incredible technical ability of the band’s musicians. Special mention must go to the group’s leader, Christian Muenzner, who performs absolute wonders on guitar! We’re talking about a guitarist who brings the glory days of Shrapnel Records into the present! As a result, the album also takes on a strong progressive metal edge. Beyond that, the production is excellent, pushing every instrument to the forefront with just the right degree of clarity and crispness. The only thing I’m not particularly fond of is the artwork, which feels somewhat amateurish – “Titanblood” definitely deserved a more suitable cover. Taking all these factors into account, we can appreciate the true value of this album and realize that the time has come for Eternity’s End to gain wider recognition. Support this highly deserving band, which deserves to be among the top acts in today’s metal scene!

TERAMAZE – “THE SILENT ARCHITECT” (2026, WELLS MUSIC INC.)

MythofRock — Mon, 10 Aug 2026 10:56:17 +0000

Australian progressive metal outfit Teramaze have been active in the genre for many years, building an impressive catalogue of high-quality, heavy progressive metal releases. Now they return with their new album, “The Silent Architect”, ready to shake up the stagnant waters of progressive metal! And what do they deliver? An excellent progressive metal album, enriched with a variety of beautiful touches that elevate the final result. Yes, “The Silent Architect” will thrill you with its progressive metal foundations, but what truly makes it stand out is its strong sense of melody and emotional depth. And Teramaze do not stop there! They also embrace a number of influences from mainstream melodic rock, bringing to mind contemporary rock bands. Alongside the complex and technical passages, Teramaze create highly catchy refrains and incorporate a variety of exciting, ballad-like moments into their songs. As a result, the progressive label alone is simply not enough to fully define their sound. Teramaze possess a remarkable sense of melody and clearly master the art of songwriting, delivering an inspired, idea-rich, multidimensional and refreshing album. “The Silent Architect” will appeal to open-minded metalheads and, of course, to anyone who appreciates good loud music. Teramaze are in excellent form and offer a highly engaging album, one that bursts with life and provides much-needed breathing space — and a promising future — for the progressive metal genre. My progressive/artistic/melodic metal obsession for this summer is definitely “The Silent Architect” by Teramaze! They bring something different that the scene really needed!

FATES WARNING – “UNDER THE SUN (LIVE IN STUDIO)”

MythofRock — Tue, 21 Jul 2026 14:15:50 +0000

A newly released video captures FATES WARNING vocalist Ray Alder and guitarist Jim Matheos performing an acoustic rendition of “Under The Sun,” a track originally featured on the band’s “Long Day Good Night” album.

Alder commented: ”Hey, everybody. So I’m here with Jim, and we’re doing some videos and some press for the upcoming release for NORTH SEA ECHOES album, which is out this summer. And we were just messing around, and we thought since we never had the opportunity to play anything live from ‘Long Day Good Night’, we thought maybe we’d play a song for you. And I guess it’s sort of live. So this is ‘Under the Sun’.”

ROY KHAN, SEVEN SPIRES – GAGARIN 205, ATHENS, GREECE – 17/04/2026

MythofRock — Sat, 09 May 2026 09:51:59 +0000

One of the finest voices in heavy metal, one of the most serious and grounded people who honor the international rock/metal scene, Roy Khan visited our country a few days ago, delivering a fantastic live show. Personally, I grew up listening to Roy Khan, both in Conception and in Kamelot, so I was eagerly anticipating his appearance in Athens. What happened on that Friday night, you can read right below.

by Dimitris Zacharopoulos

photos by Iro Kalligeri (@irokalligeriphotography)

Late in the afternoon, we arrived at one of Athens’ favorite live venues, the Gagarin 205, where a crowd was already waiting outside. The doors opened right on schedule, and we immediately rushed in to grab our spot at the front barrier, right next to the photo pit. We struck up a casual conversation, talking about Khan and which songs he might choose to perform. Before we knew it, time had passed pleasantly, and it was time for the support act, the American band Seven Spires.

Seven Spires move within the realm of power/progressive metal, led by vocalist Adrienne Cowan, whom we had admired last summer with Masters of Ceremony and Heaven’s Gate at the Rock Hard Festival Greece. So, we already knew what to expect—however, Adrienne delivered an even stronger performance this time around. Seven Spires played their fast-paced songs packed with melodies and riffs flawlessly, and on top of that solid foundation, Adrienne executed the vocal lines impressively, whether it was clean singing or growls. To be honest and precise, I wasn’t particularly fond of her brutal vocals; they had volume and power, but within the band’s musical context, they sounded somewhat forced. That said, the quartet delivered an explosive performance that truly shook us, warming us up perfectly for what was about to follow. Kudos to the guitarist for the incredible solos, and to the bassist for building a massive wall of sound together with the monstrous drummer! I’m really curious to see how Seven Spires evolve—I’m convinced their trajectory will be upward. Very upward.

After the roughly 45-minute set by Seven Spires, Roy Khan did not keep us waiting long before stepping into our embrace. The crowd, already fired up by Seven Spires, was eager to see Khan take the stage—and the moment he appeared, it was obvious that the Gagarin 205 burst into flames. The one and only Roy Khan was joined on stage by the members of Seven Spires, who served as his live touring and backing band, along with two additional musicians: guitarist Caio Kehyayan and keyboardist Lars Kvistum of Conception. The Norwegian singer delivered a truly spectacular recital, giving us astonishing performances and carrying us with his beautiful voice into worlds of grandeur. We heard every detail of that voice perfectly, as the sound was clear, powerful, and crystal-sharp—hands down reaching the quality of studio recordings. It was an extraordinary and almost unbelievable feeling to watch Roy Khan standing just a few meters away, singing so enchantingly, like an angel. Beyond the beauty of his voice and his professionalism, it was impossible not to notice what a kind and sensitive person Khan is. He kept talking to us throughout the set, constantly expressing his affection, reaching out to shake hands with the fans closest to him, cracking jokes, and playing vocal games with the audience. It did not take much to understand the human greatness of this artist, one of the most complete personalities in contemporary music. Beyond that, it is worth mentioning that the sound was excellent, the musicians accompanying him were superb, and the setlist was a magnificent best-of from Kamelot. But those are almost secondary details when you are talking about a frontman like Roy Khan—a man who creates and offers art and genuine emotion to the people who fill the venues to share in his songs. It felt like a true rite. It was as if we had witnessed an angel descend to earth just to sing for us.

Having heard Kamelot anthems like “When The Lights Are Down”, “Center of the Universe”, “The Haunting (Somewhere in Time)”, “Memento Mori”, “Karma”, “Forever” and “March of Mephisto”, we were truly and completely satisfied. Roy Khan poured his soul into the performance, offering us one musical gift after another. It was an exceptional concert—one that will stay in our hearts forever.

EVERGREY: PART WAYS WITH GUITARIST HENRIK DANHAGE

MythofRock — Wed, 08 Apr 2026 09:02:24 +0000

Swedish metallers EVERGREY have split with longtime guitarist Henrik Danhage.

Yesteday, Tuesday, April 7, the band released the following message via social media: “EVERGREY and Henrik have mutually decided to part ways after working together on and off for 21 years. It is now time for a new chapter for both parties. We wish each other all the best for the future and look forward to new music from both EVERGREY and Henrik. Stay tuned”.

Danhage had already stepped away from touring duties with EVERGREY last fall, and for the band’s fall 2025 run alongside KATATONIA, Stephen Platt of SCAR SYMMETRY filled in.

Back in 2001, Danhage received a call from Tom S. Englund, who was searching for a new guitarist and believed Danhage was the perfect fit for Evergrey.

His debut with the band came on 2001’s “In Search Of Truth”, widely considered one of the finest progressive metal releases ever, thanks in no small part to his distinctive riffing style and rhythmic approach.

Although he stepped away from the band in 2008 to focus on other projects, Danhage returned in 2014 and went on to play a key role in a string of acclaimed releases, from “Hymns For The Broken” through to 2022’s “A Heartless Portrait (The Orphean Treatment)”.

BLACKSUN – “KARMA SOMNIUM” (2025, SELF-RELEASED)

MythofRock — Mon, 21 Jul 2025 17:11:58 +0000

What do you get when you blend progressive metal, epic metal and atmospheric/dark metal elements into the heart of power metal? What happens when a power metal band shifts its focus to rich melodies and deep atmospheres? What’s the result when both guitars and keyboards share the spotlight equally, crafting a layered, cinematic sound? And how does it feel when the vocalist delivers each line with theatrical intensity and true emotion? The answer to all these questions comes in the form of “Karma Somnium”, the brand-new album by the Greek power metal force Blacksun! Formed back in … 1993, Blacksun has always stood apart from the rest. After several demos and one EP, this long-awaited sophomore album confirms their creative evolution and determination. “Karma Somnium” is a shining example of what happens when ambition meets talent. It is tailor-made for power metal fans who crave depth, color and complexity in their music — those who want more than just speed and riffs, but also atmosphere, emotion, and dimension. I had heard plenty of positive buzz around Blacksun, but nothing prepared me for the experience of this album. DREAM THEATER – “PARASOMNIA” (2025, INSIDE OUT)

MythofRock — Fri, 27 Jun 2025 16:33:39 +0000

It is true that Dream Theater’s recent albums have not quite reached the towering heights of the band’s first seven or eight releases. Don’t get me wrong — the progressive metal masters have never put out a bad album. However, after “Train of Thought”, there was a noticeable, albeit minor, dip in inspiration. Now, with their sixteenth studio effort, “Parasomnia”, Dream Theater return with none other than Mike Portnoy behind the drum kit. I’ve listened to this new album repeatedly, and I can confidently say it marks a return to form. While “Parasomnia” isn’t a masterpiece, it is a thoroughly enjoyable and accomplished record. The progressive metal icons deliver an album that sounds fresh, engaging and refined. Throughout “Parasomnia” one encounters numerous inspired ideas, carefully planted and cultivated within the compositions. The album boasts catchy melodies, intricate arrangements and breathtaking passages — all woven into a wondrous sonic tapestry. Dream Theater’s musical, compositional and technical prowess is paired here with refined musicianship and a rare artistic vision. The result is a collection of songs that resonate and linger long after the final note. Tracks such as “Night Terror,” “Dead Asleep,” and “Midnight Messiah” are phenomenal standouts. “Bend the Clock” follows in the tradition of the band’s gorgeous, emotional ballads, while “The Shadow Man Incident” is a progressive metal epic already worthy of inclusion in the genre’s canon. The band’s singular style is present throughout the record, with sonic elements drawn from all periods of their long and storied career. Whether you’re a longtime follower or a newer fan, this record will undoubtedly satisfy your craving for the sophisticated, dynamic sound that only Dream Theater can deliver. As mentioned earlier, “Parasomnia” may not rival the band’s mythic masterpieces, but it is certainly a compelling and impressive new chapter in their ongoing story.
