The British hard rock legends are set to launch the 2026 leg of “The Magician’s Farewell” tour on Thursday, January 22, in Tampere, Finland. The run will then continue with fourteen additional dates across Finland, Sweden, Norway and Denmark.

Mick’s URIAH HEEP bandmates released the following statement: “We would like to let everyone know that Mick has been taken ill and will not be able to perform the first few shows on the Scandinavian leg of ‘The Magician’s Farewell Tour’ starting in Tampere, Finland this Thursday.

“We are monitoring Mick’s progress daily and he will be back on the road as soon as he is fit, and he sends his best along with his sincere apologies to you all.

“We have been very lucky to have Sam Wood stand in at the very last minute with Mick’s blessing for the shows Mick cannot make.

“We truly appreciated everyone’s understanding in this unfortunate position we are in and hope you can make Sam welcome in this less than easy task for him.

“We will keep you updated on Mick’s progress and see you all starting tomorrow.

“Bernie, Phil, Russ and Davy”.

Hughes apparently became unwell due to dehydration. Fans at the venue noted that he walked off during the fifth song, “Can’t Stop The Flood.” After a short break, he came back out to speak to the audience, explaining that he hadn’t had enough water throughout the day, had overdone it with coffee, and was struggling with the heavy heat in Belo Horizonte, where temperatures had reached around 30°C earlier.

He tried to push on with “First Step of Love” from the Hughes/Thrall project, but once again found himself unable to continue, and the show was ultimately called off. The crowd waited for about half an hour while the production team assessed the situation, before announcing that Hughes could not return to the stage.

To make sure fans didn’t go home completely disappointed, his backing band stayed on and performed several songs on their own. A roadie handled bass duties, while Guzz — singer of the opening act Electric Gipsy — stepped in on vocals to help wrap up the evening.
