Beauty in Chaos, the gothic rock powerhouse, and The Awakening’s singer and multi-instrumentalist Ashton Nyte collaborate again with brilliant results, eight years after the release of the amazing single “Storm”. “Home”, their joint new single release, is one of these songs that feel right. The reunion makes it even more special, but honestly, the song itself is strong enough to stand on its own. Because “Home” is a beautiful, emotional and very intimate melodic gothic rock track. There is no need for big dramatic guitars or too much gothic atmosphere here. Michael Ciravolo and Michael Rozon keep things simple, leaving enough space for Ashton’s voice and lyrics to do their job – and they really do. Ashton Nyte sounds amazing… his voice has this dark, melancholic character that I always liked, but here there is also something warmer in it. He is singing about love, trust, connection and finding the person who makes you feel that you finally belong somewhere. I especially like the melody, which is soft and melancholic, but not depressing. The electric guitars, the bass and the drums create a beautiful, elegant background without taking anything away from the vocals. After eight years, making music again with Ashton Nyte is almost perfect! “Storm” was the beginning of his relationship with Beauty In Chaos, and now “Home” feels like coming back to where everything started. That’s the biggest compliment I can give this wonderful song – it is like coming back home! So eager to listen to the full upcoming new album, “Quiet Place”!

Stockholm-based post-punk/gothic rock/dark wave trio Then Comes Silence return with “Judgement Day”, the first single from their upcoming album “Requiem Ballroom”. The song immediately shows that the band is not afraid to explore new songwriting ideas, while keeping their dark and powerful identity intact. “Judgement Day” begins with a catchy Euro techno melody that gives the track an interesting and unexpected character. Soon, the guitars, bass and drums enter, creating a strong combination of post-punk, gothic rock and darkwave. The influence of Killing Joke is clear, especially in the guitar work, but Then Comes Silence manage to give the song their own personality. The track is dark, energetic and surprisingly danceable. Its subject is much less cheerful, focusing on failure, bad decisions and people who continue to enjoy life even when the end is getting closer. This contrast between the darker lyrics and the more upbeat musical elements works very well. The result is a song that feels both gloomy and fun at the same time. Alex Svenson delivers strong vocals, while the guitar work of Hugo Zombie adds plenty of atmosphere and power. Jonas Fransson keeps everything moving with energetic drumming, giving the song a steady and driving rhythm. The production is also clean and powerful, allowing every element to stand out… “Judgement Day” is a very promising first taste of “Requiem Ballroom”. It shows Then Comes Silence continuing to develop their sound without losing what makes them special. Fans of gothic rock, post-punk and dark wave should definitely give this one a listen. Catchy, atmospheric and full of attitude, “Judgement Day” is an excellent return from a band that clearly still has plenty to say.

THE 69 EYES: THE HELSINKI VAMPIRES

The Finnish rock/metal scene has always had great appeal. You see, the Finns know well how to write powerful, melodic songs that stick in your mind. One of the bands we have always liked and still keep in our hearts to this day is The 69 Eyes. As one of the main representatives of the modern gothic rock sound, The 69 Eyes have created their own personal style, which combines gothic rock, glam rock, punk and rock ’n’ roll, and is called goth ’n’ roll. Without following trends, but instead creating their own movement since the late ’80s and surviving until today, The 69 Eyes are an artistic phenomenon – and that is exactly what we analyze here, as in a few days, on May 7, 2026, we will see them live in Athens at Gazarte.

Back in 1989, in the bars and smoky corners of Helsinki, a group of young guys decided to start a band. At the center of it all was Jyrki 69 — tall, deep-voiced, obsessed with vampires, rock mythology and writing lyrics that feel like scenes from a movie. The original line-up came together with guitarists Bazie and Timo-Timo, bassist Archzie and drummer Lotto. A couple of years later, drummer Jussi 69 joined — and that lineup never changed again, something pretty rare in rock. No drama, no bullshit, just five guys locked into the same dark groove for decades.

At first, The 69 Eyes were basically a glam rock band. Think Mötley Crüe meets Hanoi Rocks — flashy, sleazy, funny, a bit dangerous. Their early releases like the singles “Sugarman” and “Barbarella” had that raw, street-level rock vibe. Their debut album “Bump ‘n’ Grind” (1992) and the follow-up, the compilation “Motor City Resurrection” (1994) kept that glam energy alive. It was all about attitude, riffs and that rock ‘n’ roll swagger. But even back then, there was something darker creeping in.

By the late ‘90s, things started to change. The band dropped “Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams” (1997), which fans still see as the last pure “glam-era” record.

In 1999, they released “Wasting the Dawn” – and that was it, the moment The 69 Eyes found their real identity. The sound got darker, slower, moodier, gothic for sure and cinematic too. The title track was a tribute to Jim Morrison, and the video even featured Ville Valo playing Morrison’s ghost! Around 2000, The 69 Eyes approached what would become their signature sound; they released “Blessed Be”, their fifth album, a masterpiece produced by Johnny Lee Michaels, which featured four hit singles (“Gothic Girl”, “Brandon Lee”, “The Chair” and “Stolen Season”).

“Paris Kills” (2002) blew things up even more. This album hit number one in Finland and went platinum. This was their breakthrough, the moment they stopped being a cult band and became a serious name in rock. By the time “Devils” dropped in 2004, The 69 Eyes were fully in their vampire era. Songs like “Lost Boys” (inspired by the same titled movie) showed how much they loved mixing music with movie culture. As a result of their big success, they toured like crazy — Europe, the U.S., Japan, Australia — bringing their dark aesthetic everywhere. Their live shows were gothic rock dance parties!

The albums kept coming and coming. “Angels” (2007) went straight to number one in Finland. “Back in Blood” (2009) leaned more into a raw, guitar-driven sound again. You could say they were reconnecting with their rock roots, but keeping the gothic vibe intact.

Fast forward to the 2010s and beyond, these guys are still delivering. “X” (2012), “Universal Monsters” (2016) and “West End” (2019) show a band that knows exactly who they are. Some years later, they dropped “Death of Darkness”, proving they still have something to say. It truly sounds like classic The 69 Eyes — melancholic, romantic, nostalgic. Their success and fame led to a huge collaboration – they recently worked with famous American songwriter Diane Warren on the power ballad “Fade to Grey”. Now the band is touring all over the world and thank god, they didn’t leave Greece outside!

From glam rock beginnings to gothic rock legends, they’ve carved out their own musical lane — dark, romantic, a little cheesy, but always cool, sharp and fresh. The 69 Eyes are a band you simply can’t get bored of. And how could you, when these five guys take the raw energy of rock ‘n’ roll, the lyricism of gothic, the narcissism of glam rock, and the sharp edge of punk, blend it all with a vampiric aesthetic and a dark cinematic atmosphere, and end up creating songs that tell irresistibly dark and melancholic stories — both musically and lyrically? As their frontman Jyrki 69 once said, most of their songs are basically wannabe movie soundtracks!

The 69 Eyes — the vampires from Helsinki — are coming to our country, and we’ll be there to dance, scream and shout with them at a goth ‘n’ roll event that’s bound to go down in history!

German alternative and gothic metal pioneers PYOGENESIS return with their new single “Uncontrolled”, a fierce and uncompromising track which dives deep into the turmoil of adolescence and emotional awakening.

Vocalist Flo V. Schwarz says “Uncontrolled” is raw and unfiltered. It felt liberating and brutally honest to write it. The musical and vocal aggression is emotionally charged and the track captures the moment when hormones are going crazy. It describes what’s going on inside young people as everything changes, while they try to find their place in the world.

“Uncontrolled” is a raw eruption of puberty-fueled chaos, where feelings ignite rage and instinct overrides reason. It captures the violent inner clash between desire, confusion, and loss of control. Trapped between childhood and adulthood, the mind spirals while the body burns. A brutal soundtrack to growing up under pressure.

REFLECTION BLACK – “BURNING OBSIDIAN STAR” (2026)

Athens-based post-punk/gothic rockers Reflection Black are back, and this time they bring with them “Burning Obsidian Star”, their second full-length album. The successor to “Last Stop to Nowhere” made a particularly strong impression on me, as it is a complete, exquisite and thoroughly accomplished post-punk and gothic rock record, enriched with plenty of dark wave and dark rock elements. The new album by Reflection Black proves to be excellent company, haunting your mind with its melodies and harmonies. The band has a deep understanding of the genre they operate in, and they combine this knowledge with passion and emotion, ultimately delivering a dark album with the appropriate atmosphere and exactly the right feeling for the occasion. Every note is interesting, every song a small post-punk/gothic rock gem, carefully shaped by the band’s hands and delivered with grace and style. “Burning Obsidian Star” is more menacing and “blacker” than anything the Athenians have released so far, yet at the same time it feels more alive and more solid. It is a clear statement from the band that they can continue at the high level of their recent past — the bar was already set high with “Last Stop to Nowhere,” but now it is raised even higher. Reflection Black are not reinventing the wheel, but they are offering an album that encapsulates the essence of post-punk and gothic rock, along with the influence these genres have had on metal. This means that “Burning Obsidian Star” will appeal both to fans of post-punk, gothic rock, and dark wave, as well as to listeners of dark and gothic metal. Faithful followers, step right up!

Italian band Risen Crow make a strong entrance into the power metal scene with their debut album, “Requiem For a Damned Love”. Formed in Rome in 2020, the group mixes the drama of gothic music with the positive energy and technical precision of power metal, creating a sound that feels dark, emotional, but luminous and powerful at the same time. The album is rich in atmosphere — full of cinematic textures, beautiful melodic male and female vocals and heavy guitars that switch easily between melody and aggression. Singers Claudio Vattone and Antonella Della Monica deliver strong and expressive performances that perfectly capture the album’s mix of pain and beauty, while Giuseppe Longo’s guitar work shines with complex, razor-sharp riffs and melodic solos. The rhythm section of Flavio Cicchetti (bass), Filippo Martini (drums), and Alessandro Bernabei (keyboards) gives the songs a dramatic, almost symphonic feel, adding depth and emotion to the heavy foundation. Songs like “Risen Crow,” “Believe in Me” and “Black Widow” stand out for their intensity and sense of storytelling. Each track feels like a chapter in a gothic tale — full of sorrow, struggle and hope. The production is clean and balanced, allowing the band’s many layers to shine without losing the raw energy of a live performance. “Requiem For a Damned Love” is a bold artistic statement. For fans of Nightwish, Kamelot, and Within Temptation, this album is a fantastic journey through shadows and emotion — a haunting and passionate start for a band with real potential. The crow has finally risen!

Ashton Nyte’s voice is as warm and haunting as ever, carrying a sense of wisdom and resilience that perfectly matches the theme of getting back up after life’s bruises. Whitney Tai’s vocals blend beautifully with Ashton’s, creating a dreamy duet that feels both fragile and powerful. “Made Of Rain (Almost Acoustic)” is a conversation between two old souls in a candle-lit room. The arrangement is minimal, but every element feels essential. Michael Rozon’s pedal steel adds a ghostly country vibe, while Heather Lockie’s violin is full of feeling without ever overstepping. Ciravolo’s guitar work is subtle and tasteful, bringing a touch of Pink Floyd-like atmosphere that floats underneath without distracting. And Tish’s acoustic bass holds everything steady, like the heartbeat of the track. The accompanying video, directed by Vicente Cordero, is a perfect visual match — simple, warm, and soaked in emotion. Set in a lounge-like space, it highlights the raw, human beauty of the performance. “Made Of Rain (Almost Acoustic)” is a rebirth. South African-born, now US-based, darkwave/goth rock icon Ashton Nyte returns with “The Awakening” – the twelfth studio album from his long-running project of the same name. This self-titled album is a bright collection of powerful songs of pure dark and gothic music – and it was a revelation for me, as through these songs I came in contact with a real master of darkwave/gothic rock! Ashton Nyte creates a singular soundscape, which is haunting, emotional and atmospheric, as he blends gothic rock, darkwave, post-punk and touches of electronic rock and folk noir. Nyte’s baritone voice – dramatic, fragile, yet commanding – guides us through several themes of the human confition. There’s a cinematic quality to the production, lush and textured, with layers of synths, echoing guitars and deep, driving rhythms. Tracks like “Mirror Midnight”, “Haunting” and “Through The Veil” are already fan favorites, great darkwave/gothic rock elegies, which feel like ghosts whispering secrets in your ear. Yes, my personal favorite of “The Awakening” is the song “Continuum”, which is majestic, melancholic, and sends shivers down your spine! What’s impressive is how Nyte balances atmosphere, melody and emotion. Even at its most shadowy, “The Awakening” never loses its sense of songcraft. The captivating vocals remind you of David Bowie, and the guitar work is brilliant too! This is an album for anyone who appreciates music with depth, feeling and artistry. After decades in the game, Ashton Nyte still finds new ways to explore the darkness, and “The Awakening” might just be one of his finest works to date. Highly recommended for late nights, candlelight and introspection.
