“Sanctuary” of Evanescence arrives with the kind of polished, massive sounding production that demands your attention from the very first second. It opens with a sophisticated flair by balancing heavy chugging riffs against mysterious electronic backgrounds before exploding into dynamic vocal arrangements. Whenever the band leans into these structural shifts, particularly during the “vocal solo breaks”, the album shines as a true masterclass in modern heavy music. However, this initial momentum hits a wall regarding the record’s overall flow. As you progress from tracks one through six, the songwriting begins to feel startlingly repetitive. While individual moments like the powerful, headbanging drops are undeniably well crafted, the songs soon start to bleed into one another and create a sense of persistent monotony. This becomes a recurring issue for the listener, as you often get the feeling that you are hearing the same musical architecture repeated over and over again, regardless of the song title on the screen. Fortunately, there are standouts that offer a necessary change of pace. Most notably the track “How Do I Heal”, serves as a powerful dynamic ballad that breaks the cycle effectively and provides the emotional depth the rest of the record lacks. While the infusion of electronic elements adds a welcome, modern texture to the mix, I couldn’t help but crave more guitar work. For a listener focused on the fretboard, the strong emphasis on electronic elements often overshadows the raw, percussive power that a more prominent guitar presence could have brought to these tracks. Ultimately, Evanescence’s “Sanctuary” stands as a paradoxical release. It is undeniably well crafted and features both top tier performances and an impeccable mix. Yet, it suffers from a noticeable lack of emotional resonance. The technical side is great but the songs often feel predictable and safe. It is a collection of music that you can respect for its assembly but it rarely demands to be felt. It is a competent, professional and very polished record that unfortunately lands as an exercise in style over substance, leaving the listener impressed by the sound but ultimately bored by the repetition.

Evanescence have unveiled a brand new track titled “Who Will You Follow”. The song, co-written and produced by Zakk Cervini (Bad Omens, Yungblud, Bring Me the Horizon, Spiritbox) alongside Jordan Fish (Bring Me the Horizon, Poppy, House of Protection, Architects), serves as a preview of the band’s upcoming album “Sanctuary”, set for release on June 5.

The album will feature material produced by Cervini and Fish, as well as tracks handled by Nick Raskulinecz (Korn, Foo Fighters, Rush). “Sanctuary” will be available in multiple formats, including digital, standard CD, deluxe CD, and a limited-edition box set, while a double vinyl edition is scheduled to arrive on September 4.

Singer Amy Lee said: “This album is over three years in the making, and finally listening back to it all at once, about to release it to the world, I am so damn proud of every second of it. It’s overwhelming. Working on it has been my outlet for so much that feels wrong and out of control, and a place to ignite hope through the power of music and connection… good thing we have the tour all lined up or I wouldn’t know what to do with myself now! I’ve been completely obsessed. I’m dying for the fans to hear this”.

Evanescence recently revealed their 2026 world tour, set to kick off on June 11, with dates across North America and Europe. Spiritbox and Nova Twins will join as special guests on the North American leg, while Poppy will support the European shows, with Nova Twins opening outside the U.K.

K.Flay, who appears on Evanescence’s recent single “Fight Like A Girl” will open the U.K. dates and will also support the band at their show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
