On Friday, October 9th, JUDAS PRIEST released the following message via social media: “It is with heavy hearts that we are sending out this personal message from our Ian….he has been the backbone of JUDAS PRIEST for so long and will be greatly missed by us all… We wish him well in his retirement and welcome Davey into the PRIEST family.”

Hill wrote: “Hello everyone, for a long time now, when asked ‘how long can you continue’ – I’ve always answered ‘until my performances suffer’…. I hate to say it, but that time has come.

“For some years now, I’ve been struggling with the onset of the evil arthritis, which is now in an advanced state in my left shoulder and right hand, established in my right shoulder, and present in both knees. I’ve been fighting this with painkilling pills, gels, and recently with cortisone injections in my shoulder and hand.

“Although I was able to put bass lines to the songs for the new album, there were questions whether I’d be able to complete the recent European tour without incident, so we asked our good friend Davey Rimmer from URIAH HEEP, and of course ELEGANT WEAPONS, to learn the set list to stand in for me if I had to pull out, which I did for the London show. This was due to me snapping a tendon in my left shoulder (as if I didn’t have enough problems with it!) just before the encores during the Brussels show two days before. This led to me not being able to lift my arm enough to reach the neck of my bass. So we had to call Davey to stand in for me, who put in an incredible performance at such short notice!

“I’ve seen specialists, who suggest I might get away without surgery, but even if I don’t there’s no guarantee either way that I’ll have enough strength in my shoulder/arm to complete a whole stage show.

“In view of all this, and the fact that I’ve neglected my family life for fifty seven years, I’ve decided to retire and spend the remaining years making up for it, and doing things with them before it involves one of ‘em pushing me around in a wheelchair.

“The obvious choice for my replacement is Davey. He’s a great bassist, and a genuinely nice bloke who’ll fit the job perfectly, and I wish him the very best of luck!

“There’s not a day goes by where I don’t give thanks for the incredible journey I’ve lived through, and it just remains for me to say that I love you all, and thank you for the life you’ve let me live”.

Rimmer is also bandmates with JUDAS PRIEST guitarist Richie Faulkner in ELEGANT WEAPONS, which features RAINBOW and MSG vocalist Ronnie Romero and ACCEPT drummer Christopher Williams.

Hill was the last remaining original member of JUDAS PRIEST, which was formed in 1969. Rob Halford joined the band in 1973, followed by guitarist Glenn Tipton in 1974. Halford left PRIEST in the early 1990s to pursue a solo career before rejoining the band in 2003. Original guitarist K.K. Downing departed in 2011 and was subsequently replaced by Faulkner.

The news was confirmed earlier today, Thursday, October 1, in a statement shared on VENOM’s official social media channels. No cause of death has been disclosed. The message reads as follows: “IN MEMORIAM — CONRAD ‘CRONOS’ LANT. It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we share the news that Conrad ‘Cronos’ Lant has passed away.

For more than four decades, Conrad’s voice, bass and vision were at the heart of VENOM. From the first dark rumblings of ‘Welcome To Hell’, through ‘Black Metal’, ‘At War With Satan’, ‘Possessed’ and beyond, he created something that changed heavy music forever.

VENOM never followed the rules. They forged their own path. And Conrad was there at the centre of it all — uncompromising, fearless and unmistakable.

The Legions have always been an important part of VENOM. To everyone who stood with the band through the years, bought the records, came to the shows, wore the shirts, shared the music and kept the flame burning — Cronos was always grateful for your loyalty and support.”

Conrad’s son, Nathan, said: “I want to thank all of the Legions for all of the support you have given my dad over the years. I know he really appreciated you all. He has laid down his soul, and his music will live on. The legend of Cronos will never die”.

VENOM’s most recent studio album, “Into Oblivion,” was released in May through Noise/BMG.

Rest in Peace, Cronos.

Following medical advice from his doctor, Glenn Hughes, who will celebrate his 75th birthday later this month, is set to undergo heart surgery. As a result, he has made the difficult decision to step away from touring and live performances for the foreseeable future.

Glenn comments: “This past year, I’ve had some health issues. The results from numerous MRIs, CT scans and an echocardiogram have alerted my medical team that I need another open-heart surgery. I really have no option and no choice as health is my number one priority. Grateful to have been chosen with a life full with the gift of music… Thank you for walking beside me”.

Glenn Hughes’s final live appearance took place on May 30, 2026, at the iconic Arcada Theatre in St. Charles, Illinois, where he reunited with The Dead Daisies for a special one-off performance. Appearing under The Purple Daisies banner alongside Doug Aldrich, Tommy Clufetos, and David Lowy, the band delivered a unique set divided between 10 of The Dead Daisies’ signature songs and a collection of classic Deep Purple anthems.

Following the overwhelming response to the sold-out St. Charles show, The Purple Daisies announced a second performance scheduled for October 2, 2026, at The Canyon Club in Agoura Hills, California. However, in light of Glenn Hughes’s decision to retire from live performances, the concert has since been canceled.

Jennifer’s passing was announced yesterday (Saturday, July 18) by her bandmates. They wrote in a statement on social media: “With a very heavy heart we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today. She had a long courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide.”

They added: “We are shattered by the loss of our beloved bandmate, sister and friend, whose fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity helped shape L7 and changed all of our lives forever.

“Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured. We love her beyond words and will carry her with us always.

“Rest in power, our dear friend.

“With love, L7”.

After revealing her diagnosis with an aggressive form of brain cancer and announcing her withdrawal from the band’s farewell tour on July 13, Finch became the focus of a GoFundMe campaign that raised more than $375,000. The funds were intended to cover in-home nursing care, medical equipment, physical and speech therapy, home-care expenses, and to help complete a creative project she had hoped to finish in 2027.

Earlier this month, L7 explained that The Last Hurrah Tour had been planned “when all four of us were in good health and spirits,” but Jennifer Finch was forced to step away after being diagnosed with cancer. Despite her condition, Finch encouraged the band to carry on with the tour without her. For the remaining dates, she was temporarily replaced by Tsuzumi Okai, who previously toured as LIMP BIZKIT’s bassist in 2018.

“We will honor her request while making her care and well-being our immediate priority,” they wrote, before concluding: “We love her, and we want her to feel the full strength of the community that has loved and supported her for so many years.”

Primal Fear shared the following statement on social media on Wednesday, April 8: “An important message to all our fans about the South American tour. Sadly we have to tell you that Mat won’t be able to join the band on the forthcoming shows in Argentina and Brazil. Mat lost a fight against a drumriser in London and slashed his right leg in a very evil way. After some more shows the doctors in Norway planned to have a surgery on his leg because the infection was already on a bad level and to prevent a sepsis. Mat is now at home and needs to recover for another 3-4 weeks to avoid any operation. Doctors say it would be a huge risk to sit in a plane for 15 hours — health comes first. This wasn’t an easy decision. We know many of you were looking forward to seeing us together on stage and Mat is truly sorry for any disappointment this may cause. We promise to give 200% on the shows and Mat will be replaced by GAMMA RAY’s Dirk Schlächter. Thank you for your understanding, your patience, belief and faith”.

Mat Sinner (born Matthias Lasch), who also serves as producer for Primal Fear, reportedly experienced a severe adverse reaction to a COVID-19 vaccination in 2021 and underwent treatment in various hospitals for eight months. Due to his health issues, the band canceled all scheduled shows in 2021 and 2022, later bringing in Alex Jansen as a temporary replacement.

Written and recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic, “Bridge To Resolution” stands as a deeply personal statement from Shane Embury. With touring on hold, the Napalm Death bassist found himself in an unexpected period of introspection, facing questions about identity, family, and creativity.

Influenced by the psychological idea of “shadow integration” — the process of confronting and embracing the darker sides of one’s personality — the album traces a path from inner turmoil toward clarity and resolution, capturing a transformative chapter in Embury’s life.

The eight tracks that make up “Bridge To Resolution” unveil a very different dimension of Shane Embury’s musical identity. Best known for his role in extreme metal with Napalm Death, here he leans into his long-standing passion for atmospheric goth and post-punk, drawing inspiration from acts like Cocteau Twins, Killing Joke and The Mission.

The result is a reflective and expansive collection of songs, built around a rich blend of synthesizers, guitars, bass and layered vocals, showcasing a more introspective and textured side of his artistry.

Joining Shane Embury on “Bridge To Resolution” is Carl Stokes (ex-Cancer, Groundhogs, Current 93) on drums, while production is overseen by Simon Efemey, known for his work with Paradise Lost, Crowbar and Amorphis.

Embury himself handles all guitar and bass duties, with the album capturing the surge of creativity that emerged during a period marked by personal struggle and deep introspection.

Joining Napalm Death in 1987, Shane Embury has become the band’s longest-serving member, appearing on 15 of their 16 studio albums. Although the group initially puzzled sections of the media, they went on to achieve worldwide recognition, fueled in part by the backing of John Peel.

Widely regarded as pioneers of grindcore, Napalm Death helped define a sound built on blistering speed, intensity, and ultra-short song structures.

The LP comes loaded with special guests, including SKID ROW bandmates Dave “Snake” Sabo and Scotti Hill on guitars, and Rob Hammersmith on drums. Joining them are Corey Taylor (Slipknot, Stone Sour), Nuno Bettencourt (Extreme), Danko Jones, Steve Conte (New York Dolls), and Damon Johnson (Brother Cane, Lynyrd Skynyrd), making Bolan’s first solo effort a seriously star-studded affair.

Bolan spoke about “Gargoyle Of The Garden State” in a recent appearance on the Rockstrap podcast, hosted by rock and roll comedian Don Jamieson alongside radio veteran and musician Keith Roth. He said: “It doesn’t sound like SKID ROW. I’m doing most of the singing. I’ve got a few guests on there. Our buddy Steve Conte is singing a song. The first single Danko Jones is singing with me. And then there’s another song that Corey Taylor sang. So there’s that. Snake played a solo. Scotti played a solo. Damon Johnson played a bunch of solos. Nuno Bettencourt played a solo. Hammersmith played drums on the whole thing. It’s a whole bunch of buds on there, and it’s cool, man. I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Nick produced it. He produced the [last] SKID ROW record, and every worth-a-shit Active Rock band that’s out there, he produced. He’s so great to work with because he is such a fan of music.”

And continued: “When we did my solo record, I played most of the guitars, most of the singing, all the bass. I didn’t do drums and I didn’t do some of the solos, so most of the solos. So it was a whole different dynamic that way [from making a SKID ROW album with Nick], because he was just talking to me. So it made it go a lot quicker. Stuff didn’t have to clear the committee’s vote and stuff and shit like that. So it was cool, man. And to see him excited about something that I wrote again, it was awesome, man. It was a really, really fun process”.

His family said in a joint statement: “Our hearts are shattered. Throughout his fight with cancer, we stayed by his side, facing every challenge as a family — exactly the way he taught us. He was a family man through and through, and our grief is beyond words”.

Francis is survived by his wife Hella, his son Sebastian, and his twin daughters Louisa and Marietta. The family has asked for privacy during this difficult time as they mourn his passing.

Buchholz was the bass player of Scorpions from 1973 until 1992, contributing his solid bass lines to the band’s distinctive sound and to several classic songs of the German legends. His first album with Scorpions was “Fly to the Rainbow” (1974). In 1992, not long after SCORPIONS hit their commercial high point with “Crazy World” (1992) and hit songs like “Send Me An Angel” and “Wind of Change”, Buchholz chose to step back from life in the spotlight. His decision came soon after the birth of his twin daughters.

After his departure from Scorpions, he went on to be a member of Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock.

Rest in Peace, Francis.
